Assess first
Fanjingshan is fairly high with steep paths. Before bringing older relatives, learn about their health — those with heart or blood-pressure conditions especially should assess whether climbing suits them. Climb within your limits and do not force the summit.
Making it easier
- Use the shuttle and cable car to cut walking distance and climbing;
- Travel off-peak and enter early, avoiding midday and the crowds to reduce queueing and standing;
- Go steadily, rest often and carry water, common medicines and warm clothing.
Care and safety
- Stay together, agree a meeting point and keep in touch;
- Lend an arm on slippery spots and remind them to hold the rails at steps;
- At breathlessness or dizziness, stop to rest at once and seek help if severe.
A gentle reminder
Keep the schedule loose and the timing generous — only then is the whole family at ease. The summit is windy and cold, so warmth is essential.
