Do your homework first
Fanjingshan is fairly high with steep paths and changeable weather. Before you go, learn the route's demands, the weather and your own condition — the basis of a safe visit. Those with heart, blood-pressure or respiratory conditions should assess their health first and judge their limits.
Against slips and falls
- Wear non-slip, well-fitting hiking shoes; after rain or snow the steps are slippery, so hold the rails and slow down;
- On descents lower your centre of gravity and take small, slow steps; do not run on wet ground;
- In peak season queue politely at the summit steps — do not push.
Altitude and pacing
- Go steadily, rest often and avoid strenuous effort or fast climbing;
- Drink water often in small amounts; if breathless or dizzy, stop at once and seek help if severe;
- Do not force the summit — choose flexibly by your energy.
Weather and emergencies
- In thunder, do not linger on ridges, under tall trees or in the open — shelter nearby;
- In strong wind or dense fog, watch cable-car operation and on-site notices and adjust your plan;
- Note your group's contact and meeting point; never enter closed areas alone.
Safety is no small thing — judge your limits and follow guidance, and the trip becomes a fine memory.
