Fanjingshan cableway resumes operation for easier summit access

Getting into the Park After Cable Car Resumption

The Fanjingshan cable car has resumed normal operation. Visitors can take the cable car directly up to the mountainside of the Golden Summit, skipping a long stretch of climbing and saving their energy for the core sights. Inside the park, transport mainly relies on a shuttle bus and cable car connection in stages, with the final section being a hiking trail. The common way to enter the park is: take the shuttle bus from the park gate to the cable car lower station, about twenty minutes; then take the cable car from the lower station to gain altitude, and after reaching the upper station, walk to the core sights.

Note that from the cable car upper station to the Hongyun Golden Summit area still requires walking, with many steps, so pace yourself. The east and west gates face different directions; choose your entrance based on the day's opening status and visitor flow. The shuttle bus and cable car are priced separately; buy as needed and combine them sensibly. Queues are long in peak season, so allow plenty of time and avoid rushing for the last bus.

Ticket Combinations and Booking Tips

Ticket prices consist of the main gate ticket, round-trip cable car, and shuttle bus. The main gate ticket is the basic ticket for entering the scenic area and requires real-name reservation; the round-trip cable car goes from the lower station straight up to the mountainside of the Golden Summit, saving a great deal of climbing effort, and round-trip is usually more economical than one-way; the shuttle bus connects the park gate and the cable car lower station and is essential transport into the mountain. For convenience, you can directly choose the combo ticket of "main gate ticket + round-trip cable car + round-trip shuttle bus."

  • It is recommended to reserve online with real-name registration in advance; in peak season, tickets may be unavailable on site or queues may be very long.
  • When booking, fill in ID information consistent with the person entering the park; entry is verified by ID, and please bring the original ID card.
  • Discount tickets for students, seniors, and children can be selected as needed; valid documents are verified at entry.
  • Children under 1.4 m in height usually receive free main gate admission when accompanied by a guardian; students enjoy discounts with a student ID; seniors enjoy discounts or free admission by age group, subject to the scenic area's announcements.

Hiking Options Beyond the Cable Car

The East Gate (Jiangkou direction) mainly uses the shuttle bus plus cable car, a flexible combination that saves time and effort and suits most visitors; the West Gate (Yinjiang direction) has no cable car and is a full hike, with steps numbering in the thousands, and a one-way ascent usually takes 4–6 hours, suiting hikers with ample fitness. Whichever gate you enter from, after reaching the core scenic area you still have to walk a stretch of climbing steps, from the cable car upper station or the trail up to the Golden Summit area. There are many steps, known as the "Ten-Thousand-Step Cloud Ladder," and some sections are steep; although they are neatly paved, they still test your fitness and endurance considerably.

For energy management, ensure sleep and eat moderately before climbing, avoiding an empty or overly full stomach; walk at a steady slow pace and drink water in small amounts frequently, which is less tiring than rushing; use handrails on steep steps and move sideways slowly, and take extra care to protect your knees when descending; allow ample time for the round trip and queues, and avoid traveling at night.

Gear and On-Site Reminders

  • Footwear: slip-resistant, enclosed hiking shoes or sports shoes.
  • Clothing: quick-dry base layer plus warm mid layer and windproof outer layer; temperature differences at the summit are large.
  • Other: trekking poles, rain gear, sun protection, drinking water, and high-energy snacks.

In thunderstorms, strong winds, or heavy fog, steps become slippery and visibility is low; please follow on-site guidance and adjust your itinerary if necessary; those with underlying health conditions should pace themselves. Operating hours, schedules, and ticket prices adjust with the season and daily arrangements, subject to on-site announcements; sit firmly and hold on when riding, and look after those traveling with you. Cable car and shuttle bus operations are affected by weather, so keep your itinerary flexible; enter the park as early as possible in peak season to avoid the afternoon queue peak.
