Do these before you go

  • Book and pay online with real-name, confirming your entry slot and gate (East or West);
  • Fix lodging and travel to and fro, and plan your entry and return times;
  • Check the weather and opening and cable-car operation and plan around them.

What to carry

  • ID, order details, a little cash and mobile payment;
  • Non-slip shoes, a warm jacket, a raincoat, a sun hat and common medicines;
  • Drinking water and a little food, a power bank, tissues and a rubbish bag.

How to arrange the climb

  • Go steadily, rest often, climb within your limits and descend before dark;
  • Hold the rails, mind slippery spots and follow on-site guidance;
  • Carry rubbish down and care for the ecology.

Note

On a first visit, do not overreach — the core sights plus one or two interests are enough; put safety and experience first for a smoother trip.

FAQ

What should I bring to Fanjingshan?
Bring: original ID (real-name entry), phone and power bank, a little cash; wear a quick-dry base with a warm and windproof layer, and non-slip shoes; also rain gear, sun protection, water and a little food, plus any regular medicines you need. The summit is colder and windier than below — bring a jacket even in summer.
Does Fanjingshan have a cableway, and must I take it?
Yes. The cableway runs from the mountainside up to the summit area and saves a lot of effort. Stronger hikers may use the trails, but they take much longer — choose according to your fitness.
What is the “Buddha’s halo” at Fanjingshan?
The Buddha’s halo is a rainbow ring that appears in the clouds opposite the sun after rain clears, with a figure at its center that moves as you move; in certain light a magnified projection — the “phantom” — may appear in thick mist. These are natural wonders of the mountain’s special weather.
How high is Fanjingshan? Will I get altitude sickness?
Fanjingshan’s highest point is about 2,572 m; the Red Cloud Golden Summit is about 2,336 m and the Old Golden Summit about 2,494 m. At this altitude obvious altitude sickness is uncommon, but the summit is about 8–10°C cooler and involves steps — pace yourself.
