Think these through first
Fanjingshan is fairly high with many steps, so with children, act within your limits. Preschoolers have limited stamina, so focus on views and experiences rather than forcing the summit; agree the pace and a meeting point with them before setting off.
Making it easier
- Use the shuttle and cable car to cut walking and climbing;
- Travel off-peak and enter early, avoiding midday and crowded times;
- Go steadily with frequent rests, keeping them interested with views and identifying plants.
Gear and safety
- Give children non-slip shoes and a spare jacket, and bring water and a few snacks;
- Hold hands and go slowly on slippery spots and remind them to hold rails at steps;
- Watch over them throughout, rest at once if unwell and seek help if severe.
Note
Keep the trip loose rather than tight and the timing generous; put safety and experience first — happy children, easy parents.
