Why spring is worth it
As temperatures rise, Fanjingshan wakes — new green spreads across the slopes, wildflowers open in turn, and mist and warm sun alternate. Compared with midsummer and deep winter, spring is comfortable for climbing and less crowded, good for a leisurely visit.
When to come
- Early spring turns the hills green with scattered blooms and few visitors;
- Late spring brings fuller foliage and more flowers, with steadier weather;
- Spring weather varies — check the forecast and avoid heavy rain and high winds.
What to see
- New-green woods: fresh green set against strange peaks, layer on layer;
- Wildflowers and wildness: blooms at the trail edges make fine photo subjects;
- Shifting mist: after spring rain, cloud seas grow more likely — mornings often surprise.
What to wear and how to walk
- The mountain swings in temperature — dress in layers and bring a windproof jacket;
- Spring is rainy, so bring a light raincoat and wear non-slip shoes;
- Enter early and stroll slowly; soft morning light is best for views and photos.
Note
Spring pollen is plentiful — those with allergies should be prepared; care for the plants and do not break branches.
