First snow adorns Fanjingshan: a white-clad beauty

Scenery at the Summit After the First Snow

As temperatures drop, Fanjingshan welcomes its first snow. The summit is draped in silver, branches are laden with glistening rime, and the striking peaks and strange rock formations look even more precipitous against the snowy backdrop, presenting a rare winter scene that draws many visitors to admire the snow.

In winter, Fanjingshan has low temperatures and abundant moisture, and the summit often features snowy views and rime. At this time there are relatively few visitors, and the mountains are especially quiet and serene, offering a distinctive tranquil beauty; on clear days visibility is good, and the snow contrasts with the blue sky, making for excellent photos. The silver-clad forests and isolated peaks are a snow scene rarely seen in southern China; when temperatures are low and humidity high, mist condenses on the branches, crystal clear; the winter summit is also easier to find quiet, suitable for quiet contemplation and photography.

Safety Reminders for Snow Viewing

While enjoying the snow, please be sure to pay attention to safety. After snow, the stone steps are slippery, so please wear non-slip shoes, hold the railings, and walk slowly to avoid falls; the mountain has low temperatures and strong winds, so keep warm and pay attention to cable car operation and road icing conditions, and try to enter the park early and descend early.

  • Roads are slippery in winter; do not venture to walk or climb near icy stone steps and railings.
  • In case of severe weather, follow on-site guidance and adjust your itinerary promptly; safety comes first.
  • When icy, some sections and cable car operation may be affected; before traveling, check the weather and road icing conditions.
  • The mountain has strong winds and low temperatures; protect against wind and slips, and keep phone and camera batteries warm.

Winter Travel Preparation

Fanjingshan is at a high altitude, with a noticeable temperature difference between the summit and the foot of the mountain, abundant mist and high humidity, and rapidly changing weather; please check the day's forecast before traveling. In winter the summit may be icy, so be sure to wear a down jacket, hat and gloves, and non-slip shoes; the boardwalks are slippery, so walk slowly and hold on firmly, and follow the scenic area announcements.

  • Warm clothing: a down jacket, hat, gloves and scarf are all essential, and keep shoes and socks non-slip and warm.
  • Essentials: original ID card (real-name entry), rain gear, a warm coat, non-slip shoes, as well as plenty of drinking water and a small amount of dry food, as supplies on the mountain are limited.
  • Pace of the trip: try to enter the park early and descend early, and avoid remaining on the trails after dark.

Winter Mountain Scenery and Ecological Heritage

Fanjingshan is located in Tongren, Guizhou, and is the main peak of the Wuling Mountains, with a maximum altitude of 2572 m. It is one of the earliest places in southern China to rise from the sea to land, and the summit still preserves primeval geological wonders. This is one of the regions with the richest biodiversity at the same latitude in the world, known as a "gene bank of biological resources." In 2018, Fanjingshan was inscribed on the World Natural Heritage List.

Fanjingshan has a well-preserved primeval forest ecosystem at the same latitude in the world, with a substantial area of dove tree (handkerchief tree) forest, and is also the only habitat of the Guizhou golden monkey. The mountains have abundant mist and relatively plentiful rainfall, creating unique sea of clouds and Buddha's halo scenery; the scenery is beautiful, and since ancient times there has been a saying of ten wonders: strange rocks, rare trees, Buddha's halo, sea of clouds, cloud waterfalls, wondrous springs, rare birds, exotic animals, snow scenes and heavenly ladders. Landmark attractions include Hongyun Golden Summit, Moon Mirror Mountain, the Ten-Thousand-Meter Sleeping Buddha, Mushroom Rock, Ten Thousand Scrolls of Scriptures, Nine Dragons Pool, and Phoenix Mountain. Coming here after snow, you can see the silver-clad forests and also feel the quiet serenity of the winter summit.
