First, Understand the Main Entrance and Transfer Sequence
The main entrance to Fanjingshan is located in Jiangkou County, Tongren, Guizhou. The common ways to get there are high-speed rail, flights and self-driving. Whichever option you choose, you must first reach the mountain gate and then follow a fixed transfer sequence: after arriving at the gate, take the sightseeing bus to the lower station of the cableway, then take the cableway up the mountain. Both the sightseeing bus and the cableway depart according to the day's operating schedule, so please allow time for transfers and avoid packing your itinerary too tightly.
Understanding this sequence is useful: it determines how much buffer time you need to leave after arriving in Tongren, and it also reminds self-driving visitors to head to the transfer point as soon as they have parked, rather than driving straight up the mountain.
High-Speed Rail: Transfer via Tongren Station or Tongren South Station
You can take the high-speed rail to Tongren Station (or Tongren South Station), then transfer to a tourist shuttle or ride-hailing car to the Fanjingshan scenic area in Jiangkou. Tongren can be reached by high-speed rail with transfers from Guiyang, Chongqing, Changsha and other directions, making it suitable for visitors from neighbouring provinces planning a short two- to three-day trip.
- After arriving at the station, give priority to the tourist shuttle, whose departures are relatively concentrated and which suits visitors unfamiliar with local road conditions.
- For groups travelling together or those carrying a lot of luggage, ride-hailing is more flexible, but in peak season it is advisable to arrange a car in advance.
- Stagger your high-speed rail arrival time and your transfer time; do not schedule the mountain gate transfer for the slot immediately after your arrival.
Flights: Fly to Tongren Fenghuang Airport, Then Transfer by Road
You can fly to Tongren Fenghuang Airport and then transfer by road to the scenic area. There is still a drive from the airport to the scenic area, and in peak season it is advisable to book a car or shuttle service in advance so that you do not waste time looking for a car after landing.
Flying suits long-distance visitors, but pay attention to how flight times connect with the scenic area's transfer rhythm. If you only land in the afternoon, it is better to schedule the ascent for the next morning so the trip is more relaxed.
Self-Driving: Navigate to the Visitor Centre and Arrive Early for a Parking Space
If you are driving yourself, navigate to the "Fanjingshan Scenic Area Visitor Centre / Mountain Gate"; the expressway conditions along the way are good. The scenic area has parking lots, but spaces are tight in peak season, so it is advisable to arrive early and factor parking, the sightseeing bus transfer and the cableway into your schedule together.
- Before setting off, confirm that your navigation destination is the visitor centre or mountain gate; do not just search for the name of the scenic area.
- In peak season, try to arrive in the early morning and head straight to the transfer point after parking.
- It is windy and cold on the mountain, so self-driving visitors can keep warm clothing and drinking water in the car for easy access after coming back down.
